All About Wool

Wool is a wonderfully versitile thing that can ben used for an endless list of projects, clothing, toys, homewears and teamed up with beads it can be made into jewellery. As well as keeping sheep warm and dry in the winter and cool in the summer, thus making it ideal for clothing, and when treated with care it goes on and on.

Why wool for a nappy cover?

For exactly the same reason a sheep has it. Wool keeps our little ones cool in summer, and warm in winter, it is also antibacterial and breathable making it hte ideal choice of cover. It also absorbs up to 30% of it's weight in liquid before it starts to feel damp, moisture also evaporates from it. While it does need lanolising regularly to ensure it stays water resistant, covers are easy to care for. Simply leave to air dry and it's ready for the evening. Wool covers also don't need washing unless they become soiled.

Caring for you wool wrap.

This really couldn't be easier, While wool does take more work, it is worth it in the long run for the benifits it gives in return.

Firstly it is important to be aware that any aggitation of the garment can lead to felting, so care must be taken to prevent this. Felting is not reversable.

While you can wash your woolen items in the machine I would not recommend doing this unless you have absolute faith in your machine. Your wool wraps will only need washing when they become smelly or soiled. You can buy special shampoo for wool but I find a small amout of dishwashing fluid works just as well, I use ecover for mine. The water should be warm but not hot, once washed rinse well and squeese as much water from the item/s without wringing. Then use a towel to blot out as much water as possible.

It is not nessisary for you to leave it to dry before lanolising again, but I always think it is best to allow the item to at least part dry as it allows the wool to soak up more of the solution.

To lanolise you will need pure lanoline, not wool wash that only contains a small amount, this comes in solid or liquid form. Basically you add the suggested amount to some hot water, or place the required amount in a small bowl of water then add to a lukewarm basin with a small amount of baby shampoo. If you have any questions about the care or use of your wool wraps please do drop me a line.

About the wool's I use.

I have spent many months sourcing out the best quality yarns, from UK suppliers. I feel that it is very important to support UK business's expecially work at home mum's. Not only does this help to keep mums at home with theirs children, it also cuts down on the amount of miles my products have travelled to get to me. Limiting the environmental impact of my business.

Bright dyes yarns

This is a beautiful hand dyed yarn, I try to keep in a stock of Chrissy's yarn, please view HERE for the yarns I have available at the moment. If you have a specific colour in mind please do get in touch as I can order yarn to be dyed specially for you.

Bright dyes yarn is 100% pure new wool which softens beautifully with washing. It is ideal for many of the LTK items excluding the ribby wrap and the night time hybrid wraps which require a thicker yarn.
